My 13 year old daughter and I started this book last week. It has already proved to be a God send, every scenario are experiences she has endured in the very recent past and even today. I highly recommend this for a mother/daughter bible study. The author does a great job of taking the Lies Women Believe and interpreting at their level with their daily tribulations.
Really enjoying going through this new book with my daughter. We both bring our respective books to a local coffee shop—and read, talk, and pray! It’s been a special bonding time with great conversations.
Great read
I requested this book because I was hoping to have a tool to use that would tell how one person dealt with issues like cheating boys, smooth boys, the influence of the social media and how it effects kids, stuff like that. However, I felt like some of the issues brought forth were blown up or an issue in general not something that supports the title of the book and the belief of that book working for parents when they pick it up.I also felt that instead of advice I got preached at. And like all sermons you don't always feel inspired, sometimes you feel worse when they are over.I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Dannah Gresh has written books for adult women, but this is the first series where she’s focusing on tween girls. While this is the companion book to the original Lies Girls Believe, I hope to get a copy of that book to read with my daughter. I’ve been reading through a variety of books so that I can have the right knowledge to have an informal chat with my daughter about things to expect as she grows up. It isn’t a subject I’m comfortable with and because of the “unknownsâ€, I find it helpful to read as many resources as I can. I had been looking for books to help go over the various aspects of puberty for a tween girl.This book, as I said, is a companion guide to the Lies Girls Believe book. It has a nice introduction to the parent/guardian. The heart of the book is broken down into subjects: God, myself, my family, being a girl, boys, friendships and the future. Each section opens with a comment or question from the perspective of a tween/young girl, the truth to take to heart, a scripture that is applicable, notes to mom (aka any guardian reading the book), the lie and helpful examples taken from personal stories. Zoey is the main character used as an example, someone who struggles with each of the lies pushed by those around her. There’s an opportunity for the reader to “talk†to Zoey and offer advice. The author identifies “sticky†feelings as evidence that these lies are believed. For example, my daughter struggles with math. Actually, she’s had multiple issues at school. And when I’ve discussed it with her teacher, I’ve laid it out plainly as my daughter has said it to me. “She feels she’s the dumbest kid in the class.†That’s the lie my daughter believes: that she’s dumb. She isn’t. Math just happens to be more of a challenge for her than her peers. But that doesn’t mean she’s an idiot. So how to show her that lie is something she shouldn’t believe in? This book will definitely help. I received a complimentary copy from Moody Publisher for my review. The honest opinions in this review are my own.
I am excited about the provision of this material because it arrives just in time to my life, when I can study it and then share it with my daughter! (The book is recommended for girls between 9 and 12 years old).I did not feel the book as deep as others in the saga, but it is precisely because it is for girls and this, instead of being seen as an inconvenience, shows me that it will be accessible to many girls who may not be used to reading and can take the book as a guide or an icebreaker so that the mothers, grandmothers or aunts who take care of the formation of girls can use as a guide to talk about these issues.If you are familiar with the other books in the series (Lies That Young Women Believe and Lies Women Believe) the process of deepening with them, according to their needs and age, will be easier for you.Sharing about this book is very joyful for me, because finally! there is a book for girls that Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth with all her experience and wisdom and Dannah Gresh, who works with girls and young women wrote it, yes, they heard us! Both of them, for many years, have also seen this need in the girls and made equipment to prepare it and be a blessing to this generation.
