i did not like this book. i do not think the author did much research, or made up some stuff, as different from other authors about eva braun. she made her look like the victim. millions of people were being killed while eva was swimming, taking pictures of her fun at the bunker, flirting with the young german officers. i guess she thought it was a privledge, flirting with the Fuhrer's mistress. As Albert Speer quoted, historians will be disappointed in Eva Braun, this book is no exception
Seems sensational and poorly researched. One example: the author made a fairly extreme statement about Hitler's health and then cited a movie review for Der Untergang as the citation. This seems very dubious to me. There are several other similar examples I found in my partial reading of this. I have decided this is not worth reading. This book is not of academic standards. It's really more of a novel partially based on a true story than actually history.Hitler was very evil, but that doesn't mean every rumor about him is true. The author apparently doesn't realize that.
I found this to be a rather poorly-written, poorly-organized bio. The author seemed somehow obsessed with comparing and contrasting her own family with Eva. If I had wanted a biography of Angela Lambert I would have bought one! As it is, about half of the book is nothing but footnotes, and some of the barbed asides about Eva's appearance in general were unnecessarily mean-spirited. Not to mention the fact that the author goes to pains to continuously point out the differences between Eva and Gretl, then mistakes them for each other herself!
I was expecting a REAL biography of Eva Braun. What I got was the same old hitler/nazi rehash with a little of Eva Braun thrown in. Nothing of any true importance, even about Hitler. If nothing else, I thought Ms Lambert would have had a good psychoanalyst read her manuscript and done several detailed chapters of Braun's psychological development and general make-up. No such luck. Another VERY TROUBLESOME thing was that the known neo-nazi and holocaust denier David Irving's books, articles, etcetera were cited in a half-dozen footnotes as sources. Not good.
Very interesting and well-sritte
For years I have read many books about the 3rd Reich and it's major players. However, Eva Braun was one who was as close to Hitler as no one else was, offering a different viewpoint on der Fuehrer until recently unavailable. This book offers fascinating incite into the personal lives of Hitler and his "mistress" and future wife. It humanizes a monster of a man who was responsible for the deaths of millions. It doesn't make him any more easier to understand, but it shows the human side of Adolf Hitler.The title of the book is very appropriate, as once you get further and further into reading it you see that Eva Braun's life was taken from her by the Nazi dictator that she apparently loved. She sacrificed and endured many years under unbearable strain for this man, she forsake the idea of being a mother, suffered indignation amongst her family, and willing became a non-entity to protect the image of the man she loved. Her best, short years were taken from her. It could be said she made a pact with the devil himself to live with Hitler and to share her life with him and reach a certain intimacy no one else alive could provide.This book was excellently written, well researched, and offers a fabulous personal perspective of Eva Braun that I have not read about elsewhere.

This book was extremely thorough and informative, well written. It has stayed with me and I read it 2-3? years ago. I'm planning on re-reading it. I'm sure I missed some things.
