Janice has hit the target on what leaders are struggling with today. We are constantly 'on' and are connected but yet disconnected from others. Authenticity is lost in the process. Mindfulness can help leaders to reconnect with their others and each other again. This book is very well written and easy to follow. It just takes practice.

Having graduated from Columbia University with a Doctorate in Adult Learning and Leadership and a Masters in Organizational Psychology (with over 15 years of organizational consulting experience) and now researching/teaching Leadership Development at a graduate level, I have always been perplexed that so many leadership books promise success or imply failure should readers fail to heed concrete action steps. That is to say, many leadership books command detailed things leaders should do. These types of books do provide helpful food for thought, but regretfully, prescribing a right way to "do leadership" has become the sine qua non for most mainstream tomes. In fact, leadership is an area that has become so saturated with prescriptions that, as you may already be aware, innumerous contradictions arise in their assertions. Bona fide students of leadership (i.e. those who "do" and "reflect upon" leading) are left scratching their heads. We thirst for something greater!Enter "Finding the Space to Lead" by Janice Marturano. What would happen if leaders gently made themselves available to something that already exists: a more spacious sense of awareness, clarity, and insight, present in every unpredictable situation and unresolved conflict? How would our experience transform if we located this sort of mental elbow-room? Inviting ourselves to awaken in such a way is precisely what Janice Marturano's book does, in an elegant, relatable, and reliable fashion. "Finding the Space to Lead" will surely be meaningful to anyone who yearns to connect sincerely with others by also connecting more deeply with themselves. This book is a qualified inspiration to listen to our hearts and minds in all moments. It demonstrates, in real terms, how this path can provide insight and guidance greater than any set of steps you may pick up in another book.I believe Janice Marturano's book is not one that should sit on shelf un-cracked, as a simple show of one's leadership acumen. I believe it should be opened softly and often as a continuous reminder of our unlimited potential as leaders. "Finding the Space to Lead" attends to your one-and-only life, lived in moments rather than steps or to-do lists. This is a book you would do well to own two copies of: one for your office that you can gift to others who suffer through the slings and arrows of modern times, and one for your bedside. Why should organizational life be tolerated or endured, when there is a way of being present that invites focus, clarity, creativity, and compassion, as illustrated so accessibly in "Finding the Space to Lead"?Those who teach leadership often refer to the Oracle at Delphi, who provided wise counsel to those who wished to influence others. The Oracle's sage advice was always the same: "Know thyself." You will surely discover more about life and yourself through this book. In fact, the Latin root of the word Oracle is ōrāre which means `to speak.' "Finding the Space to Lead" is a work that speaks to me in so many ways, above and beyond most other leadership books. How will it speak to you?Thank you for creating this beautiful book Janice.

I have a vast library of leadership books and make my living training people to be more effective leaders. This is easily one of the 5 best books on leadership I've ever read. It is packed with useful advice and clear exercises for developing your leadership strength. If you want to know more about mindful leadership, this is a great place to start.

I have read many books on mindfulness and mindful leadership but this one offers a well written and pragmatic approach to the topic. The content weaves gently through mini case studies, the writers own reflections, content and practical exercises. It encompasses all you need to know to start a mindful leadership practice.I have learned many new techniques that I can both use myself and with my Executive coaching clients.Thank you so much - I NEVER read books twice, but I have a feeling that I may be reading this one two or three times.Clare

Finally a book that truly gives professionals and even non-professionals the tools to become a great leader. You can spend exorbitant amounts of money buying every other leadership book out there, but there’s hardly one more valuable than this one. You’ll find that it teaches leaders to simply connect sincerely with others by making the space to be more available to them. Such a book is a must read for anyone, not just those looking to climb the career ladder.

Great book with perfect examples of how to be more mindful in tough situations. I find myself re-reading parts of this book every week to gain insight into how to handle certain situations, etc.

Here is a very small piece (quote) from an excellent book-"most of us spend our entire lives distracting ourselves and thinking so much about our past and our future that we end up missing the present moment, the only moment we have to live and the only moment we can affect."We live in a world where you are convinced that 'multitasking' is of paramount importance that the 'quantified self' is a stand alone phenomenon, it isn't but it can partner with 'mindfullness' to bridge the busyness river of the task master that can become our lives, technology. That or you can become a mindfull leader in the 21st century and love your life a lot more.I will effort to invite Janice on my radio talk show to share her book and the effort it took to become that 'better' more 'stable' person she has become.Kudos!

timely and effective for those who want to make a difference in the work place.
