I was privileged to be an engineer in the Nuclear Energy field for over 50 years. Perhaps some who have made up their mind that nuclear energy is the devil's tool will not be swayed but, in my opinion, his book is an unbiased discussion that presents both sides of the issues. Maybe my bias is hard to set aside (I personally and professionally feel that Nuclear Energy is the promise of the future - beats the Hell out of using fissionable material for destructive weapons) but anyone who professes to have an open mind should read this.
The author provides a thorough overview of the nuclear power industry, the science behind it, possibility for society, as well as criticism, threats, and political debates around it.Set forth in a matter-of-fact written text, by answering questions on the topic. A bit dry and encyclopedia-like at times. Recommended for those interested in the topic.
Interesting book in the shape of a FAQ on nuclear energy. Not really intended for someone in nuclear engineering, but very enlightening for the every one who wants to form an educated opinion on nuclear energy. May of the myths and lies about nuclear energy are explained and debunked in this book.
This book is very detailed in the describing the basics of nuclear energy, different methods used to create nuclear reactions, the various types of reactors used in nuclear power plants, their construction, safety considerations and the economics of nuclear power compared to alternative means for generating electricity. If you are looking for a layman's overview of nuclear power this is a good place to start.
This book is an excellent primer on nuclear power. It discusses in an accessible manner the pros and cons of nuclear power generation. If you are looking to go more into the science and technology from a physical perspective this isn't your book as there aren't any equations that can be found in a textbook on this subject. This book is for the generalist who may have questions on this topic.
